Corvette Challenge at Moroso Motorsports Park

Moroso Motorsports Park Closing for Updates But We Will Go On
05/01/08 - As I mentioned in this past months drivers meeting, the track will be closing!! I was notified a few weeks ago but was asked not to mention anything officially until this past event. Now, Moroso has made it official. As stated in the meeting, there will be a challenge May 17th. This will be the last Challenge on the old Moroso track. Once the track is completed, we will be going back for one last 2008 event. If this event falls on the first scheduled day of 2009, it will be a double points event.

Also, I will have an "event" scheduled for the following dates:
June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 22, and Dec. 20th.

These dates represent the 2008 challenge schedule, which means most of you planned on coming out and spending $30.00 that night anyway!! I do not want our group to seperate during this down time!! So, 5 points will be awarded at each one of these events and will be added to the final challenge points. Now, let me explain something!! Any event that is on one of those dates will be held in Broward or Palm Beach. This way it will be fair to all. All you need to do is show up at the event and see me to get your 5 points. You don't have to do better than someone to get the points. The first event will be go-cart racing at either Moroso or Xtreme indoor go-carting center. No matter how good or bad you are at these events, you still only get 5 points for showing up! If there is anyone receiving this e-mail that objects to this idea, please e-mail me back by Wednesday of this coming week. Also, please e-mail me a phone number so I can be sure my records are accurate.

One last thing! Bob Mancuso started something wonderful a few years back and it's my honor to see it continue. I know there are many of you that have come to me and have thanked me for stepping up and keeping this event strong, and I really appreciate that!!! Our car count has increased each month from the first 2008 event to now. Not to mention the fact that we have already exceeded 10 cars in our GM Challenge after only 3 events. This means we have already had 45 different drivers enter in our events in 2008. Now, I want to personally thank all 45 of you for coming out and helping me have a wonderful night!! There is allot of work that takes place off the track, but it's what you all do at the track that keeps me going.

So all my fellow Corvette and GM racers, you have 2 more events to get those points up plus a potential 35 points remaining if the track stays closed until after Dec. 20th. Let's stay together and have some FUN!!!!!

Discuss this on The Corvette Forum.

Event #3 won by Georgia Dobbs

03/29/08 - Wow, what a great night at the track!!! As usual, the night was full of some great racing and a lot of fun. If you remember the last story, I had mentioned how much we have all learned since that first Challenge night. Well, one of us learned enough to make it to the top!!! She ran like a champ through the night to earn a well deserved win in the final round. Read on to hear more!!

Before getting into the nights racing, I would like to thank everyone that came out to the track to participate and support our group. A big thanks again to our sponsors!!! Without them we wouldn't even get to round 1!!! We appreciate you Roger, Darrel, and Beatriz for your dedication to our series. Once again, here is how you can reach our sponsors.

Event Event Event
Event 3 Winner Georgia Dobbs Event 3 Georgia and Neil Event 3 Runnerup Neil Ramirez

We had 23 cars in this month's event, which is the highest count this year!!! Now, I have a challenge for everyone for the next event!! I would like to ask every driver to bring at least 1, and talk to at least 1 Corvette owner about coming to the April 19th event. An additional 20 points will be given to any driver that brings in 2 or more drivers!! The more people we bring to the track, the stronger our series becomes.

Ok, let's get to the good stuff!!! I will start by saying "April Fools!!" You will not get an additional 20 points for bringing in 2 or more drivers. You will get a gift from our sponsors for every new driver that you personally bring to the event. In fact, Joe G gets a shirt and hat from this month for introducing James Thompson to the group through the Corvette Forum. Thanks Joe! So, here we go into round 1. The first race was full of horsepower!! Louis Claps lines his "charged" C5 up against Alan Slaney's beast of a Z06. Louis leaves first with a .030 R/T and runs an 11.22 on an 11.18 dial. Unfortunately, Alan was looking at more than just a red C5 after going red with a -.078!! Louis advances to round 2. Next pairing had James Thompson in his first Corvette Challenge lining up with Joe Guterez. James ran a 12.64 on a 12.50 dial taking the win over Joe's 11.91 on an 11.70 dial. Hmmm, beginners luck or do we have another champion in the making? Race 3 we had a "new guy", Neil Simon against Steven Davis. Welcome back Neil!!! It was great to see you in a Corvette again. Neil left the line first with a .268 R/T and a 14.16 dial. Steve dialed an 11.60 and cut a .107 light. As one of our best 6 speed drivers, Steve shifted his way to a win with an 11.64 E.T. Georgia comes to the line next against another great 6 speed driver Doug Masters. Georgia kills Doug on the line with a .011 R/T to his .261 R/T. At the end, Georgia was only .083 seconds off her dial to Doug's .07 second difference, but Georgia goes to round 2. Once again, you can see what a difference a good R/T can make. Great job on the tree Georgia!!! Next up was Dino Ramirez vs. Mario Cantero, another new face to the Challenge. Mario left the line first with a .504 R/T against Dino's .168. Mario continued down the track and broke out handing the win to Dino. Jamie Jamison is up next against Michael Theofel. Jamie just had a really cool article written about him in the local Coral Springs and Parkland papers. Check it out, if you can!! Jamie left the line with a .097, which put a little pressure on Michael who left next with a .382 R/T. At the end, Jamie took the win by a tenth of a second. Charlie Bosco is next paired up with our sponsor Roger Preston. Roger is another one to watch!! Those guys at Horsepower Sales know how to build a car that will run on its dial almost every time. He proved it by running an 11.611 on an 11.61 dial. Unfortunately, Roger went red with an -.153 R/T. Charlie had a .143 R/T. Very close, if you drop the minus!!! Ok, the next race was a very close one. I, Michael Clark found myself next to our 2007 overall champion Richard Mortell. I beat him on the tree with a .184 to his .204 R/T, but my 17.827 E.T. is far off my 15.00 dial. Let's just say my black beauty had a cold Saturday night!!! Next up was Tamadge Dobbs running against the third new face, Gary Cox. Talmage is another racer that you have to watch out for. He may have won a clock for the worst reaction time, but when he is on his game he is dangerous!! Talmage left the line first with a .118 R/T and proceeded to run a 12.17 on a 12.14 dial. Gary went red sending Talmage to the next round. Great run talmadge!!! Keith Hickman had to pass on his run after he burnt out his spark plugs in qualifying. Neil Ramirez drove his red C5 down the track alone and into round 2. Yes, I said C5!! Last month I mistakenly called it a C4. It's hard to keep the 3 red Ramirez cars and drivers separated when they are all so clean and competitive. Next up would be John Peters with the second broke bye in round 1. He would have raced Robert Payton. Last race was Keith Ramirez with a legitimate bye run after cutting the best light in qualifying.

Keith came back to the line first in round 2 to take on Steven Davis. Keith had a .059 R/T and ran a 14.59 on a 14.58 dial. That's a near perfect run!! Steve broke out by 1 tenth. Steve, did you hit that little button too hard to find that extra power?? James Thompson rolled up for his second pass ever in the Corvette Challenge to race Dino Ramirez. Both drivers had good reaction times, but Dino broke out by a fraction. Very rare for Dino!! James was the only new driver to advance to round 2 and then on to round 3. Charlie Bosco and Louis Claps were next. Louis went red with a -.114 and then broke out by less than a tenth. Charlie earned an "advance to round 3 card". Neil Ramirez finally had a chance to race another car, which is owned by Talmage Dobbs. Neil left first with a .067 light, but Talmadge drilled him with a .010 light!!! At the end, Talmage broke out by a mere .088 seconds giving the win to Neil. By the way, that .010 was the best R/T overall during eliminations. Great job Talmage!!! We have a hat and t-shirt for you compliments of Horsepower Sales. By the way, the second best R/T was Georgia with a .011!! I'm beginning to wonder if that R/T clock has magical powers at the Dobbs home. Talmage, I must say that you have done a great job coaching your wife and giving her great equipment to compete with. I am sure Georgia would agree as well as all the other drivers in our series. We appreciate both of you for being so supportive to our series. You have both showed great improvement over the years!!! Keep up the good work!! Next up, John Peters and Jamie Jamison! John had a .045 R/T to Jamie's .138. At the end, John beat Jamie by .118 seconds after factoring R/T, dial, and E/T. Once again, that R/T is the first thing you can do right to seal a win!! The last race of round 2 brought Georgia Dobbs and Richard Mortell side by side. This is a pairing that has happened many times before in the past, but this one ended a little differently. Richard left first with a .114 R/T and Georgia replied with a .134 R/T. Can't get too much closer!!! Georgia ran a 12.909 on a 12.83 dial, which is only .079 seconds off her dial!! Richard broke out by less than a tenth. Team Dobbs strikes again!!!!

Neil Ramirez leads the group into round 3 with a race against John Peters. Check this out, John Peters R/T was a .087 and he ran a 13.287 on a 13.20 dial. He started and ended his run with a .087, but Neil ran a little tighter to his dial to take the win. The next pairing was close. Charlie Bosco cut a .092 light and ran a 12.617 on a 12.30 dial. Great for a 6 speed!!!! Unfortunately for Charlie, Keith cut a .045 light and ran a 12.986 on a 12.92 dial. Keith took the win by .021 at the stripe advancing to the semis. Back came Georgia against James Thompson. At this point James survived against Joe G and Dino. Can he send Georgia home too?? Well, James had a .054 R/T to Georgia's .077, but Georgia and Talmadge know what numbers to put on that window. Georgia ran a 12.886 on a 12.85 dial vs. James's 12.735 on a 12.60 dial. Both ran great, but Georgia takes the finish line for the win. James, we have a hat and shirt for you from Horsepower Sales for most improved in 1 event.

Finally, the semis!!! If we keep this car count up my stories are going to be 4 pages long, which I don't mind!!! As long as the readers keep sending me positive feedback on the stories, they will continue!!! Ok, back to the racing!!! Georgia "Racer Diva" Dobbs is back on the line ready to race Keith "The Kidd" Ramirez. Keith leaves first with a .117 R/T and a 14.60 dial. Our "Racer Diva" snaps back with a .019 R/T!!! Wow, she was hot tonight on the line. Off the line too actually!! Anyway, Georgia dialed a 12.85 and ran a 12.854 to take the win. Now, let's do the math!! She ran a 12.854 minus her 12.85 dial, which equals .004 seconds. Now, add her .019 R/T!!! This pass is only .023 seconds away from a perfect run! AWESOME!!! Next run was a bye run with Neil Ramirez moving on to the finals against Georgia. Oh, one more thing!!! Neil's R/T on his bye run was 1.984 seconds. No, that is not a typo!! Talmadge, where's that clock?

Now for the round you have all been waiting for! The finals!!! To the line we have Georgia "Racer Diva" Dobbs against Neil "The Kidds Father" Ramirez. Here we have two of the cleanest cars and two of the greatest drivers in the group going for one position. Neil takes off with a .055 R/T, much better than last round!! Georgia cuts a .154 R/T. Georgia ends her run with a 12.854 on a 12.83 dial, but is it enough to take the win? Neil dialed a 12.95 and ran a 12.949 breaking out by only .001 seconds!!!! Talking about close!!!! Georgia Dobbs wins her first final round in the Horsepower Sales Corvette Challenge! Great Job Georgia!! There was a line to give a congratulatory hug to our one and only "Racing Diva" after her big win. Georgia now has a 10 point lead over second place Neil Ramirez. Go for that gold card Georgia!!

Thanks again to everyone that attended this event. Can't wait to see you all again in April!!

Event #2 won by Neil Ramirez

02/16/08 - Another great challenge night has come and gone!! Just like the first event, there were many awesome races throughout the night. We should all feel great about the event that we look forward to and how much it has helped us improve our racing skills. We have had some awesome times since Bob Mancuso organized that first Corvette Challenge on Feb. 5, 2005 and we will continue that tradition with our friends and families for years to come.

On the night of our second Corvette Challenge we began our first GM Challenge with a field of 5 cars. Dino and I ran both challenges that evening and would like to see others in our group do the same. Watch for the Elite Cake Creations delivery van again this month, lol. Thanks again to Roger from Horsepower Sales as our primary sponsor and Darrel from Pride Auto Body for funding both challenges. Here is the contact info for our sponsors!!

Let's all support our sponsors they way they support us!!!

Now, about the racing!! The first round started with Talmadge Dobbs running an 11.849 on an 11.82 dial to Robert Paytons 11.694 on an 11.55 dial, but Robert cut a .050 light, beating Talmadge Dobbs .227 light. Talmadge, you won that "Christmas tree" drag racing alarm clock at the first event for the worst reaction time. Don't forget to put it next to your helmet this month!! Georgia Dobbs lined up next against Michael Theofel for the next pairing. Georgia left with a .085 light and Michael went red with a -.056 light. I don't think Georgia needs to borrow her husband's clock!! Next race, Keith Ramirez left the line with a .062 light and Charlie Bosco replied with a .121 light. After a very close finish, Charlie took the win by .016 seconds. Great race!!! Keith's uncle Dino Ramirez lines up next with Douglas Masters. Doug tries a little too hard on the line and goes red sending Dino to round 2. Next race puts a new face, Jim Brown, against Jamie Jamison. Jamie takes the win with a 12.757 run on a 12.75 dial. Jim broke out. The next race was not much different between Richard Mortell and Joe Gutierez. Joe's light was a .023 to Richards .055, but Richard ran a 13.212 on a 13.20 dial. Joe broke out a mere .042 second. John Peters and Keith Hickman line up next for a very close race. Both had very close reaction times and both ran close to their dials, but John took the win by .044 seconds. Neil Ramirez and Christian Debolt, aka "hot kiss", were up next. Christian did a great job by running a 13.678 on a 13.60 dial, but with a .538 R/T Neil had a lot to play with at the end and took the win. Last race for this round was I, Michael Clark with a bye run. I left the line with a .005 R/T and ran an 11.53 on an 11.50 dial. I cut my 4th ever .000 R/T in qualifying, which earned me a shirt and hat compliments of Horsepower Sales. After two great lights, I felt pretty good going into round 2. Unfortunately, our new participants would not be heading to the next round. We would like to thank the new faces, Jim Brown, Keith Hickman, and Christian Debolt for coming out to this event. It was good to hear that they were looking forward to coming back!! We look forward to seeing the three of you at the next challenge on March 29th.

Round two began with Jamie Jamison leaving the line with a .073 light and Robert Payton coming back with a .063 light. Jamie ran a 12.745 on a 12.74 dial and Robert broke out by only .022 seconds. The two cars may be two generations apart but that's what bracket racing is all about!! Georgia Dobbs comes back up to challenge Richard Mortell next. Richard left the line first, but Georgia ran him down at the last second on the long end forcing Richard to break out. Hmm, I wonder if she winked at him like last month!! Charlie Bosco and I lined up next with are black 6 speeds ready for some fast shifting fun!! Charlie left first with a .222 R/T and followed with a .122 light. At the end we both broke out, but I ran an 11.594 on an 11.61 dial and Charlie ran a 12.46 on a 12.70 dial. Charlie, the brake pedal is in the middle buddy!!! Great racing my friend!!! The next race shows how important a good R/T is in bracket racing. John Peters ran a 13.376 on a 13.33, which is a difference of .046 seconds. Dino Ramirez ran a 12.624 on a 12.58 dial, a difference of .044. Now that is close!!! John took the win by cutting a .030 light to Dino's .205 light. Neil Ramirez closed out this round with a bye run, automatically sending him to round three.

Neil then comes back up in round three to pair up with Georgia. Both drivers dialed well and had good reaction times, but Neil wins by only .026 seconds overall!!! Take everything that goes into lining a car up at the light and racing it for a ¼ mile to have the outcome end up being less than 3/100ths of a second apart. That's awesome!!!! The next race had me looking at Jamie on the line. The two of us have had many great races over the years and I knew the only way I could get him would be to go for another great R/T. Well, I went red!!! Jamie went on to the semi finals. John Peters closed out this round with a bye run.

Once again, Neil was in the first race and found himself looking at John Peters. Two great looking c4's ready for battle. Both drivers had awesome lights and were very close to their dials. Neil would take the win by .006 seconds ending the closest race of the night. Wow, 6/1000ths of a second!!!! Jamie Jamison rolled up to the line with a Bye run. That gave him a free pass to the finals against Neil.

Rolling up in the finals are two great looking Corvettes!! Neil dials a 13.03, which means he will leave the line before Jamie's 12.71 dial. Neil cuts a .064 R/T so Jamie comes back with a .072 R/T. Now, Jamie needs to catch Neil!! At the end, Jamie broke out giving Neil the win. After that race, it was time for Neil to pick the winner of the Corvette Challenge raffle. He closed his eyes, made his pick, and handed me a ticket with his name on it. Neil would go home with $25.00 in his pocket. This is the second time the winner picked his own ticket!!!

Thanks again to Horsepower Sales, Pride Auto Body, Elite Cake Creations, and all the participants for making this night a lot of fun!! Please send any questions or comments to clark.mc@hotmail.com. I look forward to hearing your feedback!!!

Congratulate the drivers and discuss this race on www.corvetteforum.com.

Event #1 won by Champion Rick Mortell

01/19/08 - The first Corvette Challenge in 2008 was full of highlights!! But, before I talk about the eventful night I would like to say thank you to all 20 participants that reminded us all what the challenge is about. I would especially like to thank David Horn and Mike Benhayon for entering their first Corvette Challenge at Moroso Motorsports Park. With new faces arriving each month, this event will continue to grow successfully! Now for the highlights!!! Before competition began, we had the chance to honor "the father of the Corvette Challenge" Bob Mancuso with a Dick Moroso award for all he has done to make this event take place. For those of you that don't know it, Bob is the man that started the Corvette Challenge back in 2005. He then continued on to establish the Mustang Challenge, which lead to the beginning of the Mopar Challenge and the Truck Challenge. This year, we will be adding the GM Challenge for those of you with any GM other than Corvettes. Bob, to those of us that appreciate what you have done for these challenges, you are not just the "father of the Corvette Challenge", you are the "father of ALL the challenges. Now, on to the racing!!!!

To the line first was Neil Ramirez dialing a 13.10 against John Peters 13.40. John shot off the line with a .058 R/T, but Neil replied with a .043 R/T. The run ended with Neil taking the win with some skillful fender racing at the line. The next match-up was Robert Payton vs. Norman Goodman. Two beautiful yellow vettes, but two generations apart. Robert cut a .017 R/T to Norman's .112, but Norman was only 5/100ths over his dial at the end and took the win. Jeff Brohman lined up next against Louis Claps, but Jeff went red which made Louis the winner before he even had to hit the gas. The next pairing had Richard Mortell, defending champion, up against Steven Davis. These guys were both top 5 in points last season but it's tough to beat Mortell when he runs a 13.302 on a 13.30 dial. Talking about leaving crumbs on the table!! Next up was Charlie Bosco "Chuckster" vs. Jamie Jamison "Old Glory". They both left the line with similar R/T's but Bosco picked his numbers right and ran a 12.705 on a 12.70 dial. Good job Chuckster. Hmmm, would have been a great race between Bosco and Mortell!!! David Horn came to the line next and was paired up against 2 time champ of the challenge Dino Ramirez. After a very close finish, Dino would advance to round two. Keith Ramirez was next against Michael Theofel and Keith ended up being the third Ramirez of the night to advance after Theofel broke out. I think I might join the Ramirez school of drag racing soon!! The next race started with Mike Benhayon leaving the line with a .154 R/T and Talmadge Dobbs sleeping on the line with a .449 R/T. They both broke out at the end of the run, but Talmadge ran an 11.876 on an 11.88 dial to take the win. Talmadge, the challenge group has a prize for you at the next event that just might come in handy. Up next came Georgia Dobbs against Joe Gutierrez, "Joey_G". Georgia gave Joe a wink as she crossed the line with a 12.98 E.T. on a 12.96 dial. Joe had a better R/T but was 1/10th of a second off his dial. The final race of this round found me, Michael Clark lining up with a great friend and fierce competitor Doug Masters. I can think of many "drag racing stories" to explain why I did not advance to round two, but I was just plain beat!!!! Doug ran a 12.23 on a 12.18 dial and I broke out with an 11.95 on a 12.10 dial. I knew I was in trouble when he nailed me on the tree with a .035 light. Congrats Doug.

Doug Masters came back in round two to take on Goodman, but Goodman beat himself with a .037 red light sending Doug with an easy pass to round three. Richard Mortell lined up with Keith Ramirez, "The Kidd" in the second race of this round. Although they are both outstanding drivers, Richard sent Keith home to look up the meaning of "seat time" when he ran a 13.32 on a 13.28 dial to take the win. I think seat time is one of just a few things left for Keith to learn about Drag racing. He started his racing career just days after his 16th birthday last year!! Watch out Rick, he just might be the next Jeff Gordon in the sport of drag racing. Louis Claps was up next with Dino Ramirez. Dino left the line first but Louis cranked up that horsepower and took the win. The next race started out very strange!! Neil Ramirez dialed a 13.06 against Charlie Bosco's 12.70 dial. Neil leaves -.087 seconds early so Charlie tries to beat him with a -.043 red light. As we all know, he who goes red first loses first. This round wasn't a good one for team Ramirez, but they showed their class by staying to the end of the event to wish the remaining drivers good luck. The final race of round two was a race for who was going to do the dishes and laundry for the next week. Georgia and Talmadge Dobbs came to the line in two of the cleanest Corvettes you have ever seen. Talmadge had a love note reading "luv ya bye" to his wife but it was Georgia who cut the .084 light to Talmadge's .216 light. They both ran very close to their dial, but Georgia gave that wink again and took the win light. After these two rounds, can anyone say that the Corvette Challenge isn't a family sport? Between the Ramirez family and the Dobbs family, they cover 25% of the field!!!

Round three started out once again with Doug lining up first to race Charlie Bosco. They both left with great R/T's but Doug ran a 12.118 on a 12.10 dial and Bosco broke out by only 6/1000ths of a second. Now that's close racing!!! Georgia was up next against Louis Claps. Louis made up some ground on the track but, once again Georgia gave that wink at the end as she crossed with a 13.06 on a 12.96 dial advancing her to the semi-finals. Mortell had a bye run, which made it easy for him to head to the semi's.

The semi's started with you guessed it, Master starting the lineup running against Mortell. After a very close battle at the finish line, Mortell took the win sending Doug home with a runner-up award sponsored by Pride Auto Body. Georgia had the bye in this round so she didn't have to wink to win.

The final race of the evening found Richard and Georgia leaving the line for a ¼ mile race to the finish. Georgia did all she could to catch Richard but it's hard to win against the defending champ when he is so consistent and runs a 13.236 on a 13.23 dial. Congratulations Rick!!!

We then moved onto the winner's circle where we were joined by our sponsors, Roger Preston of Horsepower Sales of Pompano, Darrel Clark of Pride Auto Body in Pompano, and Beatriz Otero of Elite Cake Creations in Pembroke Pines. In the circle, trophies were handed to the winners by Beatriz's four year old daughter Gabriela. After the trophies sponsored by Horsepower Sales of Pompano were handed out, Richard as the overall winner had the job of picking the winner of our challenge raffle!! He reached into his trophy where the tickets were mixed and pulled out the winning ticket. Well, it must have been his lucky night. He pulled his own name and won $45.00 cash!!!!

Minutes after we wrapped things up the skies opened up and the rain began!! We all went back to the skid pad to talk about the night, thank our sponsors, and see Darrel's impressive drifting stunt with "the hooptie" golf cart sliding behind a huge F-350!! No, we are not adding drifting to the event!!!! If you want something new, come out and compete in the new GM Challenge Feb, 16th. Read below this article for more info. Thanks again to our sponsors, Moroso, Bob Mancuso, and all the drivers that made this a memorable night!! See you Feb. 16th!!!!!

Corvette and GM Challenges @ Moroso & Countyline Info!

01/18/08 - There will be a total of three challenge series and one shootout this year.

Moroso Motorsports Park will host season #4 of the Corvette Challenge and the first season of the GM Challenge. Any vehicle that was "born" as a GM will be allowed to run in the GM challenge, except Corvette's. The Corvette Challenge will be a Vette only event. If you have two cars, Ex. Camaro & Corvette, you can run in both events in the same night. Each challenge will have its own points structure. We also welcome GM trucks from other events to run in our GM Challenges.

The first Moroso Corvette Challenge will be January 19th. The first Moroso GM Challenge will be February 16th, which is the same night as the second Vette challenge event. This event will be a double points night for the GM Challenge Only since there isn't a January event. Overall winners of each series will receive an award from Moroso and also a special award from the GM/Corvette Challenge group.

Countyline Dragway will host an All GM Challenge. This event will include any GM, including the Corvette. Dates for this event have not been approved as of yet, but they will be on opposing nights of the Moroso series events.

Now, here's the bonus round!!!! If you race in the Countyline events and the Moroso events, your final overall points at the end of the season will be combined from each track. If you plan on running in both series events on the same night at Moroso, you will have to choose which series points from that night you want to go towards the Winter Shootout before the first qualifying round. The top sixteen drivers will have a chance to race in the Winter Shootout, which will consist of two races at each track. The fourth and final race will run during the famous Citrus Nationals at Moroso. Each of the winter shootout races will have trophies, and the overall winner will receive a large trophy as the overall champ of the year.

So, if you miss a Moroso event just go to the Countyline event for that month. This way you can build points for the four race Shootout. Tell your friends, family members, and neighbors to get those GM's out of the garage and let's go racing!!! I am hoping to see a certain someone's '62 Nova on the track this year!!!

Rules and Tech requirements will be the same as last year. ALL racers are required to wear long pants and helmet. Also, there will be no drag racing electronics allowed in any cars.

If you have any questions about the above information, please call me at 954-605-5558. Discuss this topic on The Corvette Forum.

Event #8 won by Ramirez Again...Keith Wins His First

05/05/07 - Event number 8 is in the books and we saw a new face and a familiar face share the spotlight in the Winner’s Circle tonight. The threatening skies kept many South Florida racers’ Vettes tucked away in their garages, but those of us who braved the uncertain conditions were rewarded with a great night of racing. The temperature was unseasonably cool and the light car counts made for a short night. Dino Ramirez showed up tonight with his new trailer and made us all jealous of his new racing accommodations, but that excitement was short lived when Talmadge showed up driving Georgia’s Mothers Day gift – a Ron Fellows Z06 (#333 to be exact).

Event Event Event
Event 8 Winner Keith Ramirez Event 8 Happy Finalists Event 8 Runnerup Georiga Dobbs

First round action paired up our youngest racer Keith Ramirez with our crafty veteran Rick Mortell and the cool weather caused a double breakout giving the win to Ramirez. Paulette handed over the piloting duties of their ’69 to her husband Ed who lined up against our Challenge Coordinator Doug Masters, again we had a double breakout with Ed cutting a little better light to move on to the next round. Marc Miller, our newest racer from Boca had the unfortunate task of racing Jeff Brohman our current points leader and Brohman sent Marc over to the Test N Tune lanes early. Sorry Marc, but it was nice to have you out at the track we all hope you will continue to join us. Georgia Dobbs pulled Neil Simon and his “Qwiksilver” for the first race and gave Neil a “Qwick” lesson on how to chop down a tree by bettering Simon by .250 at the light. Our next race saw two of our leading racers Dino Ramirez and John Peters square off, John actually pulled a better light but his dial-in was a bit off and Dino took the round. The third Ramirez, Neil lined up against Steve Davis for another C4 vs. C5 grudge match and Neil pulled out all the stops with a great light and hitting his dial too.

The second round started off with Brohman and Neil Ramirez battling for a semi –final spot and Jeff felt Neil didn’t do well enough on his last birthday so he wrapped a big ‘ol red light up in a bow and delivered to him. Georgia and Dino were paired up for their second race of the night and they did not disappoint at the light cutting almost identical .073’s, but our favorite racer Georgia prevailed on the long end to make the next round. The last race of the round saw Ed Glover taking on Keith in a C3 vs. C4 shootout, Ramirez schooled Ed at the light with a .005 and never looked back advancing to the next round.

The semi-final round saw Keith take a bye into the final which set up Neil Ramirez and Georgia Dobbs to fight for the other spot. The race started out with both racers cutting respectable lights, but Neil’s red C5 could not live up to the dial in on the window and Georgia dispatched yet another Ramirez team member.

The final saw Georgia trying to pull a trifecta over the Ramirez clan by pitting her C5 against Keith Ramirez’s 91 Vette. Georgia had a slight “blonde” moment at the line and gave K-Man his first Challenge Victory by red lighting.

Corvettes Take the Rubber Match but Mustangs Get A Challenge!

Saturday Night saw the rubber match of the Stang vs Vette race at Moroso. The Mustangs came loaded for bear off their last win with 19 cars. We Corvette drivers were still licking our wounds, but we were very confident we would take the win with 12 cars in attendance.

What started and finished as a rivalry saw Team Corvette drivers Dino and Jamie taking first and second place respectively although some of those Mustang guy's (Eric) were really making it hard.

The night turned into much more than the expected rivalry. The defending Mustang Champion team and Team Corvette quickly found this was much more than a race. We always advertise our Corvette Challenge here at Moroso a family night out and tonight was no different. Our Corvette owners showed up with our families and friends in tow as did Team Mustang. We found out that we are car enthusiasts and can actually exist together. We each made many new friends and had a fabulous time.

Our collective event has brought a new CHALLENGE event to Moroso for the 2007 season.

From the excellent MUSTANG turnout Saturday evening, Moroso has offered the Mustang owners their own Challenge event. Naturally they have accepted and the new South Florida Stang Challenge 2007 has been born.

We will be helping our new friends with their Challenge. Those of you that have friends that drive Mustangs, please let them know about the new Stang Challenge.

South Florida Stang Challenge 2007 will run every race that we run. They will mirror our schedule. This will give Ronnie and Louis who have taken on a ton of responsibility, an opportunity to see how our events run. This should help them in their expected success.

We would like to wish our new friends well and offer our help in any way we can. Good Luck guy's we know you will do great.

Doug M. wins Event 12 while Dino Ramirez Captures 2nd Championship

12/2/06 - Tonight was the last race of our 2006 The Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge season. Going into this race there were two racers trying to win this years CHAMPIONSHIP. Dino Ramirez held a slight advantage over Larry Swiatek. Unfortunately for Larry, he was taken out in round one. On that note, it was very fortunate for Dino as he was able to breathe a sigh of relief having taken the championship. Congratulations to DINO RAMIREZ on his back to back championships. DINO is our 2006 Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge CHAMPION.

Lots of other stories during tonight's race. Doug Masters was making some noise tonight. Round one saw him tree his opponent and take the round. Doug went on to take tonight's race by beating the newly crowned champion, Dino in the final round. Doug took the final round by running a 12.58 on a 12.50 dial. Dino ran a 12.73 on a 12.60 dial. Congratulations Doug on your first HPS Corvette Challenge WIN.

With Doug's win tonight in his ZO6, this marks the first time a 6 speed car has won a Corvette Challenge event. Great driving Doug!

We saw the return of Georgia Dobbs tonight driving her BRAND NEW 2003 Pace Car. The new car has an A4 which is very important because I believe Georgia holds the record for the most expensive season repairs on her previous Lingenfelter car. I heard it was cheaper to give her the new car (only 73 miles on it) than it was to keep fixing the damage she was repeatedly causing to the other car. Georgia, we are very happy to have you back on the track with us.

Runnerup Event Winner
Event 12 Runnerup and 2006 Champion Dino Ramirez (right) kids with 2006 Runnerup Larry Swiatek Event 12 "Let them eat cake!" Event 12 Winner Doug M.

Tonight also had a few big break downs. One of the new C6 coupes exploded a rear on launch. Rather than tow the car off the track, one of the Challenge participants brought his enclosed trailer out there and we loaded the car inside so as not to cause any more fluid to get on the track. Mr. Gonzalez, we greatly appreciate the help you and your partner provided tonight.

We have quite a few C4's that race and we really consider them bullet proof since we have had no C4 issues in 2 years. Well tonight that ended with John Williamson blowing a head gasket on his C4.

A few new racers showed up tonight as well. One of them came to me in round 2 and said "Hey Bob I'm out, my clutch is slipping and I have a long ride home" He also said "This is unreal! It's like you are a big family, I feel like I'm part of it and tonight is the first time I have ever been here! This is great, what a wonderful group! I'm hooked and will be here for the 2007 season."

Another thing that went on tonight was the celebration of Keith Ramirez's 16th birthday. Keith was very surprised when a cake in the shape of a Corvette showed up (Thanks Mike Clark for that beautiful cake) along with 50 or so people singing happy birthday to him. Keith will be racing the entire 2007 season in his birthday present. He will pilot a RED C4 just like uncle Dino's.

This season would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. Roger Preston Owner of HORSE POWER SALES of Pompano Beach has been our title sponsor for the last two seasons. Roger will continue that by being the 2007 title sponsor as well. Last night Roger announced the 2007 Championship giveaways that he will present to our top 5 in points during the 2007 Champion Dinner. Roger, THANK YOU for your continued support of the Corvette Challenge and most importantly, your FRIENDSHIP.

Pride Auto Body is owned by Darell Clark and he has provided Semi Finalist plaques for us this season. As our first associate sponsor, Pride Auto Body has given us the ability to award 4 positions at each race. Darell, THANK YOU for your support of our series, we appreciate what you do for us.

Moroso Motorsports Park.... THANK YOU! Your staff is EXCELLENT! To say we are treated extremely well is an understatement. Not only have the racers of the Corvette Challenge become family, but the staff of Moroso is our family as well. Our many racers have commented on how smoothly our events go, this because of the great staff. We are looking forward to the 2007 season and the great things we will get to be part of.

To those of you who steered the ship during my recovery, THANK YOU. Without you guy's we could not have had the successful season that we did. You guy's are the best!

On to you the racers. We started this series as a monthly meeting to safely run our cars as they were designed. The friendships have been a wonderful added benefit of your participation. Racers that have joined us from other areas of the country, cannot believe the family atmosphere that they witness here. You all know that without each and every one of you, there would be no Corvette Challenge. 2007 will bring us a brand new race track, new challenges, and new friends as we grow larger. We have some special events that we are working on for 2007 to keep us plenty busy racing. I look forward to seeing all my friends on the track during the 2007 season. I want to say THANK YOU for the wonderful 2006 season that you provided ME with. I'll see you at the track.

HPS Corvette Challenge Awards Banquet Thursday 1/4/07

11/30/06 - Change of date for the Awards Banquet... It will now be held on Thursday Jan. the 4th. Not the 6th as previously advertised. More info will follow.

For those going to the Bradenton Banquet, this should work out well. We also had a schedule conflict for those attending the Bradenton Banquet. Our first race WAS SCHEDULED for the 6th of Jan. Moroso felt that those who have raced on both tracks, should have the time to attend both events if they like. Moroso has graciously removed the 6th from our schedule, and replaced it with a second date in Feb. Big Thanks to those at Moroso who put our racers FIRST ahead of the schedule. Announcing the 2007 National Corvette Challenge

10/14/06 - Fellow Corvette Challenge racers, the 2007 National Corvette Challenge is on! We are happy to announce the 2007 National Corvette Challenge has been scheduled for Saturday, February, 24, 2007 ( ) at Richmond Dragway in Richmond, Virginia. Dino Ramirez Wins Again in Event 10

10/21/06 - The evening's Horse Power Sales The Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge began with 20 cars assembling on the skid pad. Unfortunately, Bob Mancuso was involved in an incident while driving to the track so he could not be among us. Bob is fine, but the car took a beating. We missed you Bob!!

The first round of qualifying began with Joe G. heading down the track topless!!! At about the 1/8th mile his top flew open, which added to the excitement of these challenge events. In the second round of qualifying, one of our C6 Z06 guys ripped down the track in under 11 seconds at a speed of a mere 141.66 mph. Not bad for a daily driver!!! That being said, he was disqualified for not having a roll bar in his vehicle.

The event started with 19 cars lining up in round 1, which resulted in 9 races. Richard Mortell had the bye after having two .005 lights in both his qualifying rounds. On his bye run, Mortell cut a .006 light giving him lane choice in the following round. One of the best races in this round was between Mark Schroeder and John Chluski. John had a .091 reaction, but that couldn’t beat Schroeder’s .000 light. At the end, they both broke out but Schroeder took the win by being closer to his dial. By the way, welcome to the .000 club Mark!! One of our newest members, Lewis Claps took a win with is show quality vette after a first time participant, Joe Rogers was a little too quick on the line with a -.028 red light. It’s great seeing new drivers coming out and enjoying themselves.

Runnerup Event Winner
Event 10 Runner up Doug Masters Thanks to Melissa for taking pictures for us Event 10 Winner Dino Ramirz

The second round was the only round of the evening that didn’t have a bye run, which made for 5 great races. Doug Masters took the win when Mortell triggered that deadly red light with a -.036. Even the best on the line red light from time to time!! I lined up with Schroeder just to watch him pull away from me in the first 330ft. I caught him at the end, but unfortunately he had already won. Steven Davis took a win over Paulette Glover after Paulette ran an 11.373 on an 11.40 dial. Now that’s close!!! Larry and Dino both advanced to round 3 with better reaction times and running closer to their dials. Unfortunately at the time, Dino developed a slight problem in his engine after that run.

The third round of the evening brought Masters and Davis to the line with Masters having lane choice. This was one of the closest races of the night. Masters beat Davis on the line with a .279 R/T to Davis’s .312. Masters ran a 12.444 on a 12.37 dial. Davis ran an 11.998 on an 11.95 dial. Get out those calculators and it would say, “Masters won by inches.” Schroeder was a victim of the red light after -.103 foul against Swaiteck. Dino ended up with the bye run, but his C4 was down for the night. We had a group vote and the decision was made that Dino would run his brothers C5 for the rest of the night. This goes to show that anyone in the group can experience problems, but we all stick together to help one another.

The night ended with Doug Masters cutting an -.038 red light against Dino in the Semi’s while Larry drove down the track on his first bye run of the night. This set the stage for Larry and Dino battling it out in the final round with matching red C5 coupes. Both automatics, both with great drivers!! The race was decided on the line when Larry left -.057 seconds too early illuminating that red light for the last time of the evening. Congrats on another win Dino!!!!

This event showed a few of us how good we could be on the tree, but also that it is so easy to cross that threshold into the red light zone. Most of all, the night was about good friends having fun and helping one another out regardless of point standings or experience. For me, it was one of my best nights ever. It was a come back night for my black coupe, spent time with my buddies, and met a few new faces. We will see you all in 2 weeks!!!!!

09/16/06 - Ford Power Festival is on October 14th and 15th at Moroso. We have been asked if we would like to race a Corvette -vs- Mustang bracket race on Sunday October 15th. I think it will be fun to get us all out there, and take the smack to the track where it belongs.

Event 9 Called For Rain

09/02/06 - Heavens have opened up here in South County. I partnered with Moroso and decided that Tonights Corvette Challenge will not happen, the event is RAINED OUT. Sorry folks but mother nature is not cooperative today.

Great White North Racer, Edgar Perez, Takes Event 7 in Mancuso's Car

07/01/06 - What a great night for racing. Event #7 of Horse Power Sales The Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge @ Moroso is now in the history books. Our points leader took a big hit this week when he went out first round. Paulette Glover treed him and ran her number. In an attempt to make up ground, Dino also broke out. Paulette is really liking the new motor Ed built for her as she is running her number every round, (see links below for videos and photo gallery).

Tonight had 2 other heavy hitters going out very early as well. Both Chris Sansevere and Rick Mortell. Rick went RED in round 1 and Chris went RED in round 2.

Runnerup Event Winner
Event 7 Runner up Craig Gingerich John Williamson, Craig Gingerich, Edgar Perez and JG Event 7 Winner Edgar Perez

This has given us a tighter battle going into race 8 with Dino only having a 34 point lead over Larry Swaitek who went 3 rounds tonight. Larry was taken out by Craig Gingerich who cut a .008 light to Larry's -.008 red.... Craig usually comes in and goes round after round with great lights and a very consistent car, tonight was no different as he was once again on his game.

John Williamson is moving up in the standings quickly. John went 4 rounds tonight. John lost in round 4 to our event winner.

Tonight also saw JG going round after round in his C6. That ended in round 4 with a little premature acceleration while trying to get a jump on Craig Gingerich.

Mike Clark with his new motor was running well tonight. Mike eventually lost to tonights event winner.

While JG, John and Craig were mowing down the field, a visitor from the great white North was piloting a borrowed car.

Edgar Perez, Coordinator of the ECS Corvette Challenge in New Jersey was vacationing at Disney with his family and decided a little racing was in order. Edgar borrowed a car from HPS Corvette Challenge Coordinator Bob Mancuso and started going rounds. Edgar was extremely consistent, running 11.94 all night except when he had a lead and played the stripe.

Our final round had Edgar against Craig, both drivers were cutting great lights and the final round was no different. Edgar cut a .048 light to Craigs .055 and the race was on. At the stripe it was Edgar taking his first HPS Corvette Challenge event win by running another 11.94 on his 11.94 dial. Craig dialed 13.28 and broke out with a 13.22 trying to catch Edgar.

Horse Power Sales owner Roger Preston, presented the 1st and 2ND place Horse Power Sales Trophies to Edgar and Craig.

Our 2 Semi-finalists JG and John Williamson, were presented plaques sponsored by Pride Auto-body of Pompano.

Congratulations to all the participants, your all winners in my book.

Tonight's event saw 27 Corvettes show up and 25 of them ran in the event. We continue to see at least 25 cars per event making us the second largest Corvette Challenge in the Country. The biggest Challenge is run by Edgar in New Jersey.

The first annual Battle of the Florida Challenges is in the record books!!

By Mike Clark

05/21/06 -

Last nights Challenge began with a lot of talk about who was who, and who to watch out for. The evening started as a very quiet Moroso night, until 29 Vettes showed what they had to offer in the qualifying rounds. Once all drivers from each team had a chance to test the track, the first round ladder was determined.
Runnerup Event Winner
Florida Battle Runner up Craig Gingerich, Team Bradenton Battel Group shot Florida Battle Winner Jeremy Preston, Team Moroso

75 photos in our Photo Gallery.

he first round was full of some great racing!! The first race began with Joe G. (Team Moroso) advancing to round 2 after Andrew Edelson (Moroso) broke out. The next 7 races were our own Team Moroso drivers battling for the win. Then in the 9th race of this round, Mark Schroeder (Moroso) sent Greg Hillabrant (Team Bradenton) home by cutting a .015 R/T. Race #10 advanced Ron Hollander (Moroso), to round 2 after Dan Warren (Team Lakeland) broke out. Craig Gingerich was the first driver to advance from Team Bradenton after a very close race with Neil Ramirez (Moroso). The next race sent Larry Beutlich (Bradenton) to the next round via a broke bye run, after Marc Fisher (Lakeland), was unable to run. The round ended with Talmadge Dobbs (Moroso), red lighting with a -.222 Dino Ramirez (Moroso) earned a bye run for cutting the best light in qualifying.

Round 2 started with Larry Beutlich (Bradenton) advancing to round 3 after Sergid Rojo (Moroso) cut a -.122 red light. In the 3rd pairing of round two, Steven Davis (Moroso) took out Jeff Brohman (Moroso) with an awesome .012 R/T with a 6 speed!! I guess he has finally learned something from me, lol. After this round, Jeff went over to the dial-in side, where he hit a bird at nearly 120mph in the right lane. Both driver and car were fine. Next up, “The Clash of the Titans”!!! Our two Moroso veterans, Dino Ramirez and Jamie Jamison line up. They both ran very close to their dials, but Dino takes the win light with a .024 R/T to Jamie’s .109 R/T. Next race had me, Michael Clark looking into the eyes of Jeremy Preston and I was ready. Two black coupes!!! Automatic vs. 6 speed!!! Teacher, Jeremy vs. student, Mike!!! Jeremy advanced to the next round after a .015 R/T and me forgetting where 3rd gear was. The final race of round 2 saw Craig Gingerich (Bradenton) advance to the next round with a hole shot win against Mark Schroeder (Moroso).

Moving forward into round 3, Larry Beutlich (Bradenton) beat Joe G. (Moroso) when Joe broke out by less than .08 seconds. Steve Davis (Moroso) sent Ron Hollander (Moroso) home by running 12.04 on a 12.00 dial. Jeremy (Moroso) lined up with Dino Ramirez (Moroso) for a very close race. Both drivers were within .07 seconds of their dials, but Jeremy took the win with a .051 R/T to Dino’s .093 R/T. Craig Gingerich (Bradenton) advanced with another hole shot win against Mark Schroeder (Moroso). This sent both Larry Beutlich and Craig Gingerich from Team Bradenton advancing to the semi finals. They would meet Jeremy Preston and Steve Davis from Team Moroso to battle for the final race.

The first pairing in the semi’s saw Jeremy Preston (Moroso) vs. Larry Beutlich (Bradenton). Larry Beutlich cut a better light of .036 to Jeremy’s unusually late .061, but Jeremy ran Larry down beating him to the finish line with a 12.352 on a 12.35 dial. The next pairing saw Steven Davis (Moroso) going red by cutting a -.182 R/T advancing Graig Gingerich to the finals. This brought us to the final round we were waiting for. Team Moroso vs. Team Bradenton!!! Although Craig (Bradenton) ran a 13.20 on a 13.19 dial vs. Jeremy’s (Moroso) 12.36 on a 12.32 dial, Jeremy took the win with a great .042 R/T to Craigs .104 R/T. Congratulations to Jeremy for winning the first annual Battle of the Florida Challenges.

First Time Winner Swiatek Closes on the Points Lead in Event 5

05/06/06 -

Tonight's Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge @ Moroso Motorsports Park was a 31 car field and saw first time winner LARRY SWIATEK in his 97 A4 car, defeat STEVE DAVIS driving his ZO6 in the final round to take his first win of the season. Larry ran a 13.90 on a 13.85 dial to Steve's 12.17 on 12.10 dial. Number one qualifier tonight was James Scott. The big story.... Round one saw points leader Dino Ramirez defeated by Charlie Bosco when Dino went red. Round one also had number 2 in points, Bob Mancuso handed a first round loss when David Duttinger ran a 12.64 against Bob's losing 11.79 Apparently Bob fell asleep at the tree... AGAIN

More photos in our Photo Gallery or this racer's album.

Our 2 Pride Auto Body Semi Finalist plaques were awarded to, John Williamson driving his 95 C4 and Jeremy Preston running his 03 C5.

Paulette Glover is back, her husband Ed built a stout new small block for her 69. She came out of the box running mid 11's with the new mouse under the hood. Paulette went out early due to breaking out in a big way. Our other young lady, Georgia Dobbs was eliminated in round one when she went red while behind the wheel of her Lingenfelter 383. Two really fast women.

We welcomed 3 more new racers tonight as our series continues to grow via word of mouth and lots of advertising. I would like to thank our Title Sponsor Roger Preston, owner of Horse Power Sales of Pompano, for making this possible for us. I also want to thank Pride Auto Body for coming on board and giving us the ability to have semi finalist awards for the rest of the season. Of course I want to thank the Moroso facility, and their staff for allowing us to have so much fun and for taking care of us every month. On to you the racers... Each of you come out every month and make these events more and more competitive, memorable and fun. On behalf of Horse Power Sales of Pompano, Pride Auto Body, Moroso Motorsports Park, and the Corvette Challenge... a big THANKS TO EACH OF YOU.

I hope to see everyone out at the track on Saturday the 20th of May for the Battle of the Florida Corvette Challenges. I fully expect that TEAM MOROSO will represent well, by beating all challengers and keeping THE TROPHIES here with our Moroso Team.

Dino Ramirez Builds Lead in Bid for Championship in Event 4 with the Win

04/15/06 - Race #4 of the 2006 Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge @ Moroso was run tonight, with perfect weather for a great night of racing. 27 racers showed up to run their cars as well as our title sponsor Roger Preston from Horse Power Sales of Pompano Beach. Dino Ramirez took the all C4 final against Chris Sonsevere. Congratulations to Dino on another big win. Chris great job on your part tonight, welcome to the Corvette Challenge.

Tonight we saw 5 new racers come out on this holiday weekend. The Corvette Forum www.corvetteforum.com has become a valuable resource for spreading the word as most of the new racers tonight are from the forum. Thanks to Troy and those responsible for allowing all the Challenge events across the country to be promoted on the site. Thanks also to our title sponsor Horse Power sales and you, our racers for handing out the Corvette Challenge schedule cards.

John Chulski was the number one qualifier tonight, nice John. Mike Clark hit the tree with a perfect 000 light, excellent work on the tree tonight Mike (except that one RED) against Dino. LOL......

Dino has got to be the luckiest guy I have ever seen on the race track. Every opponent except for Chris in the final round red lighted against Dino tonight. The man had a private test and tune session during the event. I would rather be lucky than good anyday, however Dino is both.

Tonight also saw the announcement of a new associate sponsorship. Daryl Clark of Pride Auto Body Inc. Pride has come on as an associate sponsor for the remainder of the 2006 season. With that sponsorship came the addition of two new plaques that are awarded to the two semi finalists each month. Tonight's semi finalists were Larry Swiatek and John Occhiogrosso (Johnny "O") Larry has been running with us since the birth of the Challenge and Johnny "O" was one of tonight’s new additions. both received the new Pride auto Body Inc. semi finalist plaques.

As always we would like to thank all of you, the racers that come out and support the series. We also want to thank the many supporters that come out to cheer us on from the stands. Of course, we thank our sponsors, Roger Preston of Horse Power Sales of Pompano Beach for his continued on and off track support. We thank and welcome our new associate sponsor Daryl Clark of Pride Auto Body of Pompano. We hope to be able to announce additional associate sponsorships by our May 6th event, stay tuned. See everyone at the track next month.

Jamie Jamison Captures First win in Event 3

03/04/06 - Event #3 of the Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge @ Moroso is in the books and what a great night of racing it was. Excellent weather and a 30 Corvette car count. Jamie Jamison took the win by beating John Perez in the finals. Jamie dialed a 12.82 and ran a 12.88 to Johns breakout of 11.38 on an 11.40 dial. Congratulations Jamie on a fantastic run tonight.

The shocker tonight was 2005 HPSCC Champion Dino Ramirez our points leader going out early. Dino was taken out when Paulette Glover put him on the trailer in round 2. Paulette ran her number (she was on all night) while Dino broke out. Paulette was eventually taken out by tonight’s winner Jamie in a round 3 loss by breakout. Man she was running tonight, way to go Paulette.

For more photos from today, visit the Full Gallery including pictures of Braswell's Speed GT World Challenge Corvette.

Second in the points Bob Mancuso was put out by Craig Gingerich in round 3. Craig ran a 13.16 on a 13.15 dial and Bob broke out running a 11.62 on an 11.66 dial. Craig runs the RevExtreme Corvette Challenge up in Bradenton as well as select races here at the Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge. Overall everyone had a SAFE fun night and we are looking forward to our next event on April 15th.

We had 2 visitors last night, our first was Ed Braswell who was testing his WORLD CHALLENGE car on the road course in preparation for the 12 hours of Sebring in 2 weeks. Ed decided to run both of his cars with us in tonight’s HPS Corvette Challenge. Those cars are bad fast and traction was an issue for him. Ed got the cars into the 11’s spinning the whole distance of the ¼ mile track. Ed and his crew were very friendly and out going. Round 1 had paired Ed in his World Challenge car against Paulette Glover driving her 69. Should of seen her face when I told her she was racing Ed. Priceless is an understatement. Paulette promptly placed Ed’s entry on the trailer. Both dialed 11.50 and Paulette ran on her number while Ed with no traction ran a 12.41.

Our second visitor was Mr. Doug Moroso who sought us out and thanked us for bringing “this wonderful” series to the Moroso facility. He was so impressed by the amount of fun we were having. Mr. Moroso said to me, look around see the happiness you bring to all these people….. Humbling is an understatement, that to me was better than if I was to win the event. Thanks Doug it’s my pleasure to be associated with all the competitors and staff. These truly are a fantastic bunch of men and women.

Many of us will be at the HPS Pepsi Chevy show on Sunday March 12th running the Corvette Shootout portion of the show. Feel free to come out and race or spectate, we certainly would love to see you all out there.

In closing I would like to thank you, the participant and spectators who come out and support us each and every month. As well as Roger from Horse Power Sales of Pompano. Roger is our sponsor who puts up the money to make this happen.

NHRA Helmet Expiration Dates
12/20/05 - In the 2006 NHRA rule book on page 230 is a helmet expiration date schedule. It states that all Snell 90 rated helmets expire 1/1/2006 and Snell 95 helmets expire 1/1/2007. It is important for you to have his information because if you are in the market for a helmet, you want to ensure it does not expire in the two years. If you are shopping for a helmet, please ensure a Snell 2000 or Snell 2005 rating. IHRA tracks will likely follow in this pattern.

Dino Ramirez Captures Championship While Taking the Event 10 Win

12/10/05 - Finished out the season with 21 cars hitting the track. Tonight's race was very important as we were crowning our first ever Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge Champion. Round 3 was the deciding race for the championship as our 2 contenders got paired together. Dino Ramirez vs John Perez (JP) Dino driving his red C4 took the round win, and the championship at the same time.

Runnerup Event Winner
Event 10 Runner-up James Scott James Scott and Dino Ramirez 2005 Champion and Event 10 Winner Dino Ramirez

Tonight's big surprise came from our runner-up James Scott running his 02 convertible. James has only been out with us a couple times this season however, he has apparently learned very well. Congratulations to James and his wife as proud new parents. Mom dad and baby are all doing well.

Georgia Dobbs went 3 rounds tonight impressing all in attendance with some awesome lights. Georgia was paired with her husband Talmadge in round 2. Talmage says he can't race her because "no matter what he is the loser" well he was kind of right. He was the loser of the round because he got hammered by a huge hole shot. Way to go Georgia.

I am also very thankful that Horse Power Sales has stepped up it's sponsorship with us in 2006, as you can tell by our new logo. Another thanks to our associate sponsor ZO6vette.com We appreciate your support during our first season.

Most importantly I want to thank you, the racers. Without each of you supporting us every month this would not be possible. We have all become great friends and I look forward to our monthly races and the cruises that we participate in. Each one of you played an important role in showing Moroso and our sponsors that we are here to stay. See you all on January 21st. for the start of the 2006 season.

To get into the finals John Perez beat his opponent in the semis, Bob Mancuso when Bob broke out. In a great side by side battle to the stripe, John took the win with a pass of 11.46 on a dial 11.40 to Mancuso's loosing 12.05 on a 12.08 dial. Jeremy Preston earned a bye run into the finals by taking out our points leader Dino Ramirez. Top 5 tonight were: 1) John Perez... 2) Jeremy Preston... 3rd) Bob Mancuso... 4th) Dino Ramirez... 5th) Talmadge Dobbs... To the new racers that showed tonight, great job.

Winner Event Runner-up
Track Manager Presenting Winners Trophy to John Perez Winner John Perez First Place John on Left Runner-up Jeremy Preston on right

OK now for the things we don't want to hear about but must report on. Typically we don't break or wreck cars, tonight that all changed. First car had a balancer pulley backout. 2nd car lost an INPUT shaft. Third car was totaled, in a one car meeting with the wall. Thankfully the driver and car had met all the safety requirements to run in the 10's during tech inspection. His car gave itself, in order to keep the driver safe, as the driver walked away. Fourth car lost a transmission.

After all the Hurricanes everyone was eager to hit the track and be with friends. 22 cars raced tonight and even those who broke had a great time.

I would like to THANK our Title SPONSOR HORSE POWER SALES of Pompano Beach for all that you do, without you this great time would not be possible. Big THANKS to MOROSO MOTORSPORTS PARK for you continued support of the program, your team is #1 in our book. Thanks to ZO6 VETTE. COM for their support this season. To all the RACERS Thanks for your continued support. See everyone next month when we crown our FIRST CHAMPION.
