* 2007 Standings Event #8 won by Ramirez Again...Keith Wins His First
05/05/07 - Event number 8 is in the books and we saw a new face and a familiar face share the spotlight in the Winner’s Circle tonight. The threatening skies kept many South Florida racers’ Vettes tucked away in their garages, but those of us who braved the uncertain conditions were rewarded with a great night of racing. The temperature was unseasonably cool and the light car counts made for a short night. Dino Ramirez showed up tonight with his new trailer and made us all jealous of his new racing accommodations, but that excitement was short lived when Talmadge showed up driving Georgia’s Mothers Day gift – a Ron Fellows Z06 (#333 to be exact).

First round action paired up our youngest racer Keith Ramirez with our crafty veteran Rick Mortell and the cool weather caused a double breakout giving the win to Ramirez. Paulette handed over the piloting duties of their ’69 to her husband Ed who lined up against our Challenge Coordinator Doug Masters, again we had a double breakout with Ed cutting a little better light to move on to the next round. Marc Miller, our newest racer from Boca had the unfortunate task of racing Jeff Brohman our current points leader and Brohman sent Marc over to the Test N Tune lanes early. Sorry Marc, but it was nice to have you out at the track we all hope you will continue to join us. Georgia Dobbs pulled Neil Simon and his “Qwiksilver” for the first race and gave Neil a “Qwick” lesson on how to chop down a tree by bettering Simon by .250 at the light. Our next race saw two of our leading racers Dino Ramirez and John Peters square off, John actually pulled a better light but his dial-in was a bit off and Dino took the round. The third Ramirez, Neil lined up against Steve Davis for another C4 vs. C5 grudge match and Neil pulled out all the stops with a great light and hitting his dial too.
The second round started off with Brohman and Neil Ramirez battling for a semi –final spot and Jeff felt Neil didn’t do well enough on his last birthday so he wrapped a big ‘ol red light up in a bow and delivered to him. Georgia and Dino were paired up for their second race of the night and they did not disappoint at the light cutting almost identical .073’s, but our favorite racer Georgia prevailed on the long end to make the next round. The last race of the round saw Ed Glover taking on Keith in a C3 vs. C4 shootout, Ramirez schooled Ed at the light with a .005 and never looked back advancing to the next round.
The semi-final round saw Keith take a bye into the final which set up Neil Ramirez and Georgia Dobbs to fight for the other spot. The race started out with both racers cutting respectable lights, but Neil’s red C5 could not live up to the dial in on the window and Georgia dispatched yet another Ramirez team member.
The final saw Georgia trying to pull a trifecta over the Ramirez clan by pitting her C5 against Keith Ramirez’s 91 Vette. Georgia had a slight “blonde” moment at the line and gave K-Man his first Challenge Victory by red lighting.
