* 2007 Standings Rick Mortell wins Event #5
04/07/07 - The seasons fifth race brought out 20 racers to enjoy some unseasonably cool weather on the holiday weekend. Even though the turnout was a little light the racing action was intense. Saturday night also marked the return of our
The Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge founder Bob Mancuso and his shiny silver machine. As Bob was enjoying his first night back in the pilots seat in over a year, he was setting some new personal bests on the track. Welcome back Bob and nice runs!
Round one saw our points leader, Jeff Brohman get taken out by another convertible driven by Charlie "Chuckster" Bosco while our number two man Steve Davis was taking himself out against Dino Ramirez via red light. Our resident racing Diva Georgia Dobbs had no mercy on the rusty Mancuso taking him out of the fight by running .03 over her dial. Another first round highlight pitted our two fastest Vettes of the night in a first round dual of horsepower. Paulette Glover and her '69 vs. Vic Gonzales and his '99, this was their third meeting and Paulette finally chalked up a win against the "Beast" with a solid 11.3 run. John Perez showed up in his new C6Z sporting a beautiful new paint job and some killer Asanti rims, but looks didn't intimidate young Keith Ramirez as he sent JP packing. Not to mention our beloved photographer John Chluski lighting up the red bulb again in the first round - arrrgh!!

The second round highlights included "K-Man" Keith Ramirez taking out his own uncle and past Challenge winner Dino Ramirez by making the old man break out on the long end. While those Ramirez boys were beating up on each other our Georgia "Peach" was knocking Neil Ramirez out of the game. Challenge coordinator Doug Masters and his borrowed (thanks, Roger) C5 fell to Rick Mortell and his silver C4. John Peters was quietly moving through the rounds with his C4 as well. Chuckster finally made it into the third round by beating Paulette in one of the closest races of the night.
Round three action saw Charlie finally get sent home by Miss Georgia and John taking out the young Ramirez in a battle of C4's. Rick picked up the rounds only bye putting him through to the semi finals.
In semi final action Georgia picked up her bye into the finals while Rick and John would face off in a head to head to determine who would go against Georgia and her 50th anniversary C5. Although John cut a .005 light, Rick was well on his way into the finals when he just missed his dial by a hundredth.
Rick wound up getting Georgia off the tree for his fist win of the season and this victory would catapult him into the points lead.
Thanks to all the racers who came out on the holiday weekend and another big thanks to Roger Preston of Horsepower Sales and Vic Gonzales of Gonzales and Sons for being such great sponsors of our event. See you all on the 21st!
