* 2006 Standings Great White North Racer, Edgar Perez, Takes Event 7 in Mancuso's Car
07/01/06 - What a great night for racing. Event #7 of Horse Power Sales The Horse Power Sales Corvette Challenge @ Moroso is now in the history books. Our points leader took a big hit this week when he went out first round. Paulette Glover treed him and ran her number. In an attempt to make up ground, Dino also broke out. Paulette is really liking the new motor Ed built for her as she is running her number every round, (see links below for videos and photo gallery).
Tonight had 2 other heavy hitters going out very early as well. Both Chris Sansevere and Rick Mortell. Rick went RED in round 1 and Chris went RED in round 2.

This has given us a tighter battle going into race 8 with Dino only having a 34 point lead over Larry Swaitek who went 3 rounds tonight. Larry was taken out by Craig Gingerich who cut a .008 light to Larry's -.008 red.... Craig usually comes in and goes round after round with great lights and a very consistent car, tonight was no different as he was once again on his game.
John Williamson is moving up in the standings quickly. John went 4 rounds tonight. John lost in round 4 to our event winner.
Tonight also saw JG going round after round in his C6. That ended in round 4 with a little premature acceleration while trying to get a jump on Craig Gingerich.
Mike Clark with his new motor was running well tonight. Mike eventually lost to tonights event winner.
While JG, John and Craig were mowing down the field, a visitor from the great white North was piloting a borrowed car.
Edgar Perez, Coordinator of the ECS Corvette Challenge in New Jersey was vacationing at Disney with his family and decided a little racing was in order. Edgar borrowed a car from HPS Corvette Challenge Coordinator Bob Mancuso and started going rounds. Edgar was extremely consistent, running 11.94 all night except when he had a lead and played the stripe.
Our final round had Edgar against Craig, both drivers were cutting great lights and the final round was no different. Edgar cut a .048 light to Craigs .055 and the race was on. At the stripe it was Edgar taking his first HPS Corvette Challenge event win by running another 11.94 on his 11.94 dial. Craig dialed 13.28 and broke out with a 13.22 trying to catch Edgar.
Horse Power Sales owner Roger Preston, presented the 1st and 2ND place Horse Power Sales Trophies to Edgar and Craig.
Our 2 Semi-finalists JG and John Williamson, were presented plaques sponsored by Pride Auto-body of Pompano.
Congratulations to all the participants, your all winners in my book.
Tonight's event saw 27 Corvettes show up and 25 of them ran in the event. We continue to see at least 25 cars per event making us the second largest Corvette Challenge in the Country. The biggest Challenge is run by Edgar in New Jersey.

While we are out on the track having fun our sponsors are paying the bills that allow us the opportunity. I would like to thank, Roger Preston owner of HORSE POWER SALES POMPANO BEACH who is our title sponsor and biggest supporter of this series.
I would also like to thank PRIDE AUTO-BODY of POMPANO BEACH who has come on and sponsored the PRIDE AUTO-BODY Semi-Finalist plaques.
Without our sponsors we have no Corvette Challenge. Please continue your support our sponsors.
